Folk music is the heartbeat of our cultural heritage, echoing the beauty of nature, changing seasons, vibrant festivals, religious traditions, historic legends, and the bravery of our ancestors. Passed down through generations, these melodies are the soul of our communities, preserving stories that define our identity.
Yet, in today’s fast-changing world, folk artists struggle to sustain their craft. Many find it difficult to earn a livelihood, afford new instruments, or even repair their old ones. As a result, the rich tradition of folk music faces the risk of fading away, lost to time and neglect.
Jhankaar: Keeping the Tradition Alive
Through Jhankaar, Samaarambh Foundation is on a mission to support folk artists, restore their dignity, and preserve India’s musical legacy. Our initiative focuses on:
- Reviving Folk Music – Organizing cultural events, festivals, and live performances to provide artists with a stage to showcase their talent.
- Providing & Repairing Instruments – Ensuring that traditional musicians have access to Dhol, Damau, Chimta, Thali, Dholki, Mahakbaja, and other instruments, helping them continue their art.
- Empowering Differently-Abled Performers – Creating inclusive platforms where differently-abled children and individuals can perform alongside seasoned artists, fostering unity through music.
- Sustaining Livelihoods – Offering financial and logistical support to artists so that they can continue their craft without financial hardship.
Jhankaar is more than just a program—it’s a movement to celebrate, protect, and uplift the unsung custodians of our cultural heritage.
Join us in amplifying their voices, restoring their rhythm, and ensuring that the legacy of folk music continues to inspire generations.
